From the March 30 U.S. Embassy Riga seeks entries from Latvian youth for an open contest to participate in an exclusive new leadership development opportunity – membership in Europe’s first U.S. Ambassador’s Youth Advisory Council. Members of the Youth Advisory Council will have opportunities for travel and professional development. Council members will also have a chance to meet regularly with the U.S. Ambassador, to have input into youth programming and the Embassy’s grants process, and to advise Washington on policy issues. The State Department’s Special Advisor for Global Youth Issues, Ronan Farrow, officially announced the launch of the Youth Advisory Council during his visit to Latvia last week. This is the first U.S. State Department Youth Advisory Council in Europe.

The U.S. Embassy invites young Latvians to send in one suggestion or idea for the U.S. Ambassador, Judith Garber, in any format: video, photo, song or essay. The contest started March 30. It is open to anyone between the ages 15 and 30 who currently resides in Latvia. All entries must be e-mailed to Spindler-RantaK@state.gov by April 5, 2012. The panel of judges will consist of Miroslavs Kodis, LTV Journalist, International Visitors Leadership Program Alumnus; Caryn McClelland, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, Liesma Ose, Advisor to the Minister of Education and Fulbright alumna; Kerri Spindler-Ranta, Cultural Affairs Officer, US Embassy; and Amy Storrow, Public Affairs Officer, US Embassy. The winners will be announced at a special event at the end of April.
