Guest lecturers from Costa Rica and South Africa teach at LiepU

From 16th until 20th October 2023 Liepaja University (LiepU) hosted guest lecturers from different European partner countries under the Erasmus+ programme exchange mobility KA171 within the blended intensive programme (BIP) “How to enhance cooperation between people from different countries in the higher education: improve your intercultural competence”, and several guest lecturers from Costa Rica and South Africa were giving also lectures in environmental engineering and education to LiepU bachelor and master level students.

The guest lecturers Prof.Andrea Acuna Piedra, Prof.Lilliana Abarca-Guererro and Sofia Picado Valverde from the Environmental Engineering Faculty of Costa Rica Institute of Technology were teaching to Master “Ecotechnologies” students on waste management and recovery for recycling in the university, circular economy in food industry and community management around the water and solid waste: experience in Costa Rica. Whereas the guest lecturers from the School of Education of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) were giving the lectures on gender and sexual diversity questions at university by Prof.Shakila Singh, computer programming, coding and robotics in education, using ICTs in education and geometry by Dr. Reginald G.Govender, commerce education teaching, research and community engagement by Dr.Jugathambal Ramdhani and enhancing pre-service and in-service teachers experiences with whole brain creativity and thinking program by Prof. Dr.Angela James.

Prof. Lilliana Abarca Guererro about the visit at LiepU admits: “What has been very interesting for me was the wide range of studies of the different participants in the class, some from the private as well as the private sector. We discussed issues related to Life Cycle Assessments as well as Circular Economy not leaving aside the basics of waste management and pollution. Now, visiting LiepU and meeting with so many other professionals from different backgrounds, areas of expertise, has enhanced my views on other issues different from my knowledge.” Prof. Shakila Singh revealed that the overall teaching experience was interesting, the engagements were lively, and LiepU students participated enthusiastically during the lectures.
