LiepU hosts Europe's music, arts, drama and dance therapists

From 11 to 13 May Liepaja University hosted the International scientific practical conference and symposium "Music Therapy in Europe and Latvia".

In the first day of the conference its participants listened to Latvian and foreign participants' reports, but in the next days there were all four - music, visual arts, drama, dance therapies master classes which were lead by therapists from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Romania, Spain and UK.

The path to the master study programme "Music Therapy" at LiepU started in 1998 with Dr rer.med. Reiner Haus initiative and the interest and support of the Rector of this time Kārlis Dobelis. In 2003 the first students were enrolled in the study programme “Music Therapy”, including today's teaching staff Mirdza Paipare, Līga Enģele and Olga Blauzde. Liepaja University new master's degree study programme  “Arts Therapy” and its director, Mirdza Paipare, are looking forward to the future master students.

In the closing of the first day of the conference was revealed the monograph “Music Therapy: Competency of Theory and Practice" of Mirdza Paipare. The scientific editor of the monograph, Professor Diana Laiveniece, greeted the author and said: “Mirdza can do everything so good! She has a fantastic capacity to gather facts, but with the story it is not enough to be science. Together we created the science. Now you have to evaluate what we did".

Liepaja University has been honored since during the conference on Saturday, May 13, the General Assembly conference of the European Confederation of Music Therapy happened, during which representatives of thirty member countries talked about the future opportunities in the sector.
