LiepU Folk Dance Collective's Head Teaches Dances in Brazil

Recently Liepaja University has developed a closer cooperation with the Latvian cultural center at Ijui city in Brazil, as the result of this cooperation, the folk dance group "Satburags" invited LiepU folk dance group's "Banga" Head Kristīne Kārkliņa and LiepU graduate Aigars Kārkliņš to visit Ijui city in Brazil. They arrived in Ijui on 8th of December.

Kristine Kārkliņa shares the first impressions: "Fist day in Brazil passed with discovering the city and the first practical training. In order to help to prepare the dance programme for the National Song and Dance Festival 2023 to the folk dance group "Staburags" in two weeks we have to learn four compulsory dances. Dancers are open, active and hard working".

Liepaja University representatives during the stay in Brazil will meet with the heads of Latvian cultural center at Ijui city and with Ijui city mayor - they will present Liepaja and Liepaja University.

Brazil for us is an exotic country, located very far away from Latvia. Kristine Kārkliņa shares the impressions: "Birds are singing and we hope these are parrots. We feel welcomed, in the hotel fruits were left for us as a present. City looks beautiful. In the reception we were speaking with the help of the translator, because English is not popular, but the objective is achieved - we are here and we are ready to work!"
