ANIMATION FOR NEW MEDIA

Field Work language Acad. cycle ECTS credits Semester Course code
Art LV ENG Bachelor 6 Spring MākZ2A30
Subject Aim

To provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the development and applications of animation in the creative industries; to develop skills and competences in animation production.

Subject Content

The content of module consists of the following themes that combines theory, analysis and practical experiments:

-An insight of animation history;

-Use of animation in the context of contemporary culture;

-Techniques of animation: “traditional animation”, stop-motion animation, computer animation etc.;

-Experimental animation techniques;

-Basic principles of animation;

-Making of an interactive animation;

- 2D computer animation basic principles and tools;

-Choice and preparation of a project.

Expected Results

Within the module students gain the knowledge that helps to carry out and animation project – the history and development of animation, drawing, shaping, forms and techniques of animation (“traditional animation” (hand-drawn), stop-motion animation (puppet animation, figure making of different materials), experimental, Flash and computer animation, etc.), the use of animation in the context of contemporary culture (WEB, multiplication, games, film industry, advertising etc.).

Within the module students acquire skills that are necessary for realization of different animation techniques, experimentation, creation and use of interactive animation in different contexts, animation project preparation and presentation.

Students are competent in using different, context-based animation techniques while carrying out an independent animation project.

During the module students will gain knowledge about the basic principles of 2D computer animation and 2D computer animation development tools. They will acquire skills to create complex 2D computer animation projects with Adobe After Effects software.
Students are capable of making decisions and initiative to create work individually, in a team or doing tasks that are assigned to other members and find creative solutions. Students acquire the competencies needed to work independently and in a team. Students acquire the competencies needed to work independently and cooperate, creating a team, motivating students, realizing groups and individual projects and taking responsibilities over results.
