Subject Aim

To introduce students to the history of video, shooting techniques, post-processing software, editing principles and terminology. An overview of the stages of audiovisual media production will include the creation of narrative, the most important elements - image and sound and their interaction, image composition and digital editing

Subject Content

Within the module, the process of creating a digital video film is considered from the technical, visual and content aspects. It includes working with video techniques, planning the filming process, creating a story, directing techniques, light and sound application, non-linear editing and analysis of the video creation process. The module also includes the history of video and film development and an overview of the field's development in Latvia and globally.

Expected Results

Students know the history of video and the terminology used, know how to use video techniques and editing programs to create both video art and commercial works.

 

Knowledge

How to properly prepare the video equipment for filming;

How to determine and justify the factors affecting the quality of image, sound and light;

How to analyze and discuss the video post-processing stage;

Knows the application of editing principles;

Knows the operating principles of a non-linear editing program.

Skills

Can independently conceive, plan and implement audiovisual works;

Can apply editing techniques appropriate to the idea;

Can create a technically high quality video.

 

Competences

Can critically evaluate the available resources for the realization of the audiovisual project;

Can perform a self-critical analysis and selection of the filmed material;

Can choose reasonable editing techniques appropriate to the message;

Can apply knowledge-based technologies and audiovisual effects in non-linear video editing.
