Subject Aim

To provide insight and develop understanding of the context, definition, history and artistic expressions of sound art. To give an insight into the history of electronic and experimental music, sound theory. Develop basic skills in sound recording technology, digital sound processing and electronic sound production, and the use of sound in the context of audiovisual media.

Subject Content

The module consists of two courses: The Theory of Sound and the History of Music and and Introduction to Sound Art. As part of the module students execute a practical exam – create a movie soundtrack. The module develops fundamental skills of sound art and discusses history and theory of sound in art.

Expected Results

After completing the course, the student is able to: discuss and understand the context of  the history of electronic and experimental music and sound art in the 20th century;

choose and apply sound equipment, microphones according to needs and perform a sound recording;

practically apply the digital sound processing knowledge and has fundamental skills in sound editing;

create original sound content independently by using the fundamental techniques of electronic sound creation;

understands the role of sound in audiovisual media and film and can use a selection of fundamental skills to make a soundtrack for a short movie.
