Subject Aim

Strengthen and supplement the knowledge acquired in school with computer science and information technology related issues.

Subject Content

Introduction to computer science and information technology. Notion of the algorithm. Number systems. Search, sorting, encryption and compression algorithms. Computer architecture.

Expected Results

Completing the course students will:

·        know professional terms in Latvian and English;

·        be able to use terminology of Information Technology in Latvian and English;

·        be able to select corresponding tools for the solution of the problem;

·        be able to plan the activities and to define their priorities;

·        be able to use tools for information search and selection;

·        be able to prepare presentation and to organize the events on issues related to Information Technology and Computer Science

·        be able to design algorithms and to prepare their descriptions;

·        be able to design software system analyzing different technological solutions and selecting the most suitable

Requirements to gain ECTS

Exam. The work during the semester is evaluated by the average mark, which is obtained by summing up all the marks for homework tasks, three tests and theses of seminars with presentations and it should be at least 7. If the averaged mark is less than 7, it is necessary to pass the exam
