Subject Aim

To acquaint students with translation and interpreting characteristics of the major translation theories, methods in  Latvia and in the world;
provide an opportunity for students to practice translation and interpreting skills.

Subject Content

During the study course, students will learn about the main issues in translation theory; they will also train to translate and interpret different kinds of texts. A special attention will be paid to the analysis of source texts, the translation process itself, and the quality of target texts. Theoretical issues, source and target texts will be discussed and analyzed in groups.

Expected Results

Competence in basic issues of translation theory, translation techniques and methods;
Average sophisticated and complex text translation skills;
Linguistic, ethical, literary and cross-cultural skills target text production.

Requirements to gain ECTS

The theoretical basis of the training course mastered, successfully completed and defended individual work tasks, participation in seminars, workshops and lectures (at least 70% attendance), homework, test and passed  exam.
