Subject Aim

To develop the student's sense of language, learning about  stylistically and emotionally expressive vocabulary layers, identifying the features and usability of text and seeing the modern world.

Subject Content

The course describes the basic unit of language – the word (lexeme), its structure, meaning, etymology, variants. The word is analysed in three aspects: structural, semantic and functional. It covers homonymy, synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, and phraseology.

Expected Results

Lexical competence - knowledge of vocabulary and the ability to use it in relation to the context.
Semantic competence - understanding of the meaning and ability to use it.

Requirements to gain ECTS

Theoretically learned  course, successfully completed independent work tasks, participation in seminars and practical classes, satisfactory completion of the exam
