The aim is to introduce students with the structure of the French language, as well as give information about the most often used and useful phrases in modern French; let students acquire deeper knowledge about peculiarities of modern French in various discourse (text) situations analysing oral and written discourse (text ) linguistics in administrative, juridical, media and business sphere.
The course describes the language as a speech activity in specific communication situations, which determine the use of appropriate means of expression both in spoken and written form. The basic unit– text, its structure, meanings, etymology, variants. The text is looked at in three aspects: structural, semantic and functional. The course also deals with discourse analysis, with usage of modern French in different fields via the media.

Difficultés et les pièges de la langue française.
Linguistic competence – the ability and skill to use the French language as a system of signs in different contexts. Sociolinguistic competence and pragmatic – the ability to build a single text or speech following the language patterns.
Student has the skills:
to write a reflection or a mixed text;
to consider organisation of passages (planning of the text , paragraphs, linkage between the parts);
to write a text complying with the communication situation;
to use a variety of syntactic constructions;
to purposefully use different layers of vocabulary and figurative means of expression.
Students take the theoretical course, complete independent tasks successfully; participate in seminars and classes; and pass the final test.
